Broadsiding became the only juvenile in Australia to claim two G1 victories this season when he annihilated a big field to win the G1 J.J. Atkins Stakes over 1,600m at Eagle Farm on Saturday, 15 June.
The son of boom first-season Darley shuttle stallion Too Darn Hot added the J.J. Atkins to his commanding victory in the G1 Champagne Stakes at Royal Randwick in April.
Along with wins in the Listed Fernhill Mile and the G2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes, Broadsiding now has four Stakes victories to his credit and is in line to win Champion Two-Year-Old of the Year honours.
The handsome colt, out of Australian mare Speedway, raced in sixth place early before sprinting clear to easily beat Bittercreek and Blue Point colt Bosustow by 4.25 lengths in a fast 1 minute 34.89 seconds.
Trained for Godolphin by James Cummings and with champion jockey James McDonald high in the stirrups saluting the crowd, Broadsiding took his record to four wins and two placings from seven starts for prize-money earnings of just under $2 million.
Broadsiding’s win continued Too Darn Hot’s remarkable performance at stud. Too Darn Hot has now set a new record by surpassing the earnings of all other first-season sires in history.
The former two-year-old champion colt of Europe in 2018, a triple G1 winner and a son of the immortal Dubawi, has now sired 58 winners of 90 races worldwide – including nine individual Stakes winners of 16 Stakes races.
Boiling Point, Hot Darling, Darnation, Fallen Angel and just last weekend Lava Stream are recent Stakes-race winners by Too Darn Hot.
In his first season in Australia, Too Darn Hot has already sired 12 individual winners of 18 races, while his yearlings have sold for up to AU$1.9 million in 2024.
