Oversubscribed made her Stakes debut a winning one as she rallied from far back to collar Macanga nearing the wire to win the Listed Wild Applause Stakes by three-and-a-quarter lengths at Belmont at the Big A on Saturday, 22 June.
The three-year-old daughter of Too Darn Hot was a dead-heat debut winner over the Tampa Bay turf on Feb. 10 and was previously a troubled second in a local optional claimer May 5.
Piloted by Flavien Prat, Oversubscribed broke towards the rear of the field from post seven, as stablemate Chantilly Road was hustled up to battle for the lead with Macanga. The duo put eight lengths between themselves and the rest of the field after an opening quarter-mile run in 23.02 seconds over the firm going.
Macanga held a half-length advantage over Chantilly Road with a 13-length gap to Vino Rouge in third after a half-mile, as Prat remained patient aboard Oversubscribed another six lengths further back. Oversubscribed began to advance on the far turn, moving to a narrow third over Vino Rouge, but still remained several lengths behind pacesetting Macanga and a now fading Chantilly Road.
At the top of the stretch, Macanga’s six length advantage also began to diminish as Oversubscribed gained rapidly down the center of the course, charging past Chantilly Road and setting her sights on a tiring Macanga. Oversubscribed overtook Macanga with less than a furlong to run and soon pulled away, crossing the wire an easy winner. Vino Rouge got up for second, with Macanga taking third.
Bred in Great Britain by Rabbah Bloodstock Limited, Oversubscribed is out of the Stakes winning Cape Cross mare, Zurigha, and hails from family of Graded Stakes winners With You (G1), Call the Wind (G1), We Are (G1) and Lily’s Angel, to name just a few.
Too Darn Hot has now sired 10 individual Stakes winners of 17 Stakes races worldwide.
In addition to Oversubscribed, Too Darn Hot is also the sire of Stakes winners Broadsiding, Boiling Point, Hot Darling, Darnation, Fallen Angel and Lava Stream.
In his first season in Australia, Too Darn Hot has already sired 12 individual winners of 18 races, while his yearlings have sold for up to AU$1.9 million in 2024.
