Pedigree notes

Golden Mile won the stallion-making G1 Caulfield Guineas defeating the cream of the nation’s Classic crop. Previous winners include the legendary Lonhro, sire of Golden Mile’s dam and other highly successful sires Vain, Beau Sovereign, Luskin Star, Grosvenor, Redoute’s Choice, Starspangledbanner, The Autumn Sun and Champion Anamoe.

Golden Mile is from a leading branch of the Sadler’s Wells sireline which has enjoyed great success under Australian conditions. He showed great tactical speed and the ability to accelerate at the finish of his races, key ingredients for sire success.

G1 Statistics

Stallions from this sireline have a superior record of G1 winner production with a wide variety of broodmare sirelines, particularly the Mr Prospector line.

Best Nicks

Golden Mile’s sire Astern has his best nicking stats with returns of Mr Prospector, Danehill and Sir Tristram line mares, being a product of the Lonhro nick himself. Several of his Stakes winners have multiple returns of Mr Prospector in the dam.

Golden Mile’s grandsire Medaglia d’Oro has sired almost 200 Stakes winners and has had great results with Mr Prospector line mares, Seattle Slew line mares and several Danehill lines.

Inbreeding/Linebreeding options

Golden Mile has a pedigree that offers several options for linebreeding and Female Family Inbreeding. He has multiple lines of Lalun, Natalma and Special which can all be reinforced to great effect.

His dam is by a son of Octagonal whose dam Eight Carat offers further linebreeding opportunities.

Strategy One

Golden Mile has a pedigree ideally suited to a wide range of mares from the Mr Prospector sireline. Mares by Street Cry, Street Boss, Pride Of Dubai, Hallowed Crown, Iffraaj, Almanzor, Dubawi, Too Darn Hot, American Pharoah or Swiss Ace would all fit the bill. Multiple returns of Mr Prospector in the mare carrying additional lines of Fappiano, Unbridled,  Zafonic or Kingmambo would also be ideal.

Strategy Two

Inbreeding to special who is the dam of Sadler’s Wells in Golden Mile’s sireline and grandam of Nureyev who occurs twice in his damline, is one of the world’s top sources of elite thoroughbreds. It can be achieved with mares whose ancestries include Fairy King, Encosta De Lago, Perugino, Testa Rossa or with further returns of Sadler’s Wells or Nureyev.

Strategy Three

Inbreeding to Lalun, dam of Bold Reason and Never Bend, already occurs in Golden Mile’s pedigree and can be reinforced via Mill Reef (sire of Last Tycoon’s dam ) and Riverman via stallions such as Redoute’s Choice, Written Tycoon and Street Cry or their sons.

Strategy Four

Inbreeding to Eight Carat has produced outstanding performers Verry Elleegant, Daumier, Cifrado, Rain Affair etc and can be achieved with mares by Deep Field, Shooting To Win, Pierro, Pierata, Zed and Cosmic Force.

Strategy Five

The broad Sadler’s Wells/ Danehill cross is one of the world’s best and as Golden Mile’s offspring will have Danehill back in the 5th generation, a return of Danehill in his mares is a good option, particularly if is combined with other names in the pedigree which suit Golden Mile, such as Mr Prospector, Special and Lalun.

Examples would include mares by Flying Spur (combines Danehill and Mr Prospector) and mares by Redoute’s Choice (combines Danehill and Lalun via Last Tycoon).
