Blue Point has got straight to the point with an impressive start to his stud career, already siring his third winner. Blue Storm emerged victorious on the opening day of the Craven meeting at Newmarket on Tuesday, 18 April.
The colt, trained by James Tate, settled just behind the early leaders and then accelerated 400 metres out, taking the lead 200 metres from home. He comfortably won the race by a length and a quarter.
Blue Storm is closely related to Marshman, who became the latest Group winner for Harry Angel on Monday. Harry Angel is now the sire of seven individual Stakes winners, including G1 Blue Diamond-placed Arkansaw Kid, Tom Kitten, and the progressive two-year-old Stretan Angel.
Back to the (Blue) Point, he was the sprint king who amassed an impressive record. He is the only horse in history to win three G1 sprints at Royal Ascot, England's most prestigious racing event.
He won 11 races and had six placings from his 20 starts. Blue Point was a four-time G1 winner, and he also won the G2 race at two, in addition to being placed in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes and the G1 Middle Park Stakes.
Blue Point only ever campaigned at Group level. His impressive racing record has made him an icon and notable figure among the world's best sprinters.
Blue Point's first yearlings offered to the Australian market earlier this year followed a similar trajectory to his first European runners, completing the sale season leading first-season sire by average at the Magic Millions Gold Coast ($378,125) and Inglis Easter Sale ($300,000). He also topped the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale ($350,000) with his first-crop yearlings selling to $900,000.
Blue Point will stand the upcoming southern hemisphere breeding season at Darley in Australia's Northwood Park for $44,000 inc GST.
