Improving youngster Icarian Dream is now one of the top fancies for next month’s rich Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast after her brilliant victory in the G3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes over 1,200m at Eagle Farm on Saturday, 21 December.
And the daughter of Blue Point completed a feature-race double for her sire after Vein Girl had won the previous night under lights at the Gold Coast.
Having her fourth race start, Icarian Dream settled midfield for jockey Jason Collett before switching to the centre of the track in the home straight.
The filly powered away to beat Cool Archie and The Playwright by a widening 1.5 lengths in 1 minute 10.85 seconds, recording her second victory and boosting her prize money swag to $273,600.
Out of the Australian mare Teebo, the filly was bred by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds at Eddington in Victoria and offered at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale.
Ciaron Maher Bloodstock purchased for $310,000 before Sledmere Stud at Scone acted as agent to sell the filly at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $300,000 to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock.
Maher trains Icarian Dream from his Warwick Farm stables and has always had a high opinion of the juvenile.
Vein Girl led most of the way to win the inaugural $250,000 Magic Millions The Debut over 1,000m under lights at the Gold Coast.
Challenged for the lead early after jumping well, Vein Girl surged away at the top of the home straight under jockey Ceejay Graham and then held off Torque To Be Sure and Forgotten Spirit.
Trained by Chris and Corey Munce at Eagle Farm, Vein Girl showed a great kick at the 400m pole before stopping the clock on 57.56 seconds for the distance.
The filly was also bred and offered by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, where Munce Racing and agent Arthur Hoyeau outlaid $60,000.
A granddaughter of 2001-02 Australian Champion Two-Year-Old Victory Vein, Vein Girl has a three-year-old full-sister and a yearling half-brother by Palace Pier. Her dam revisited Blue Point in November last year.
Blue Point has two colts and two fillies in the catalogue for the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from 7-13 January.
His 12 lots to sell at the same sale this year fetched an average of $216,250 and sold to a high of $500,000 – a colt out of dual G1 winner Kenedna.
In just a few seasons, Blue Point has sired 160 winners of 258 races worldwide, including 14 Stakes winners of 25 Black-Type events.
