Bosustow performs his Magic tricks

Blue Point colt too tough and clever in rich Guineas at the Gold Coast

Superbly bred three-year-old Bosustow defied a wide run and a big finish from the runner-up to win the RL Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas over 1,400m on Friday, 17 January.

By Blue Point out of the Irish mare Bumbasina, Bosustow is a half-brother to the outstanding race mare Amelia’s Jewel.

Patiently ridden by Josh Parr, Bosustow came from 10th at the 800m mark and eighth nearing the home turn to snatch the lead in the final 50m.

Give Me Space finished fast to be beaten a head, with Arriving Home three-quarters of a length away in third place as the winner stopped the clock on 1 minute 21.91 seconds.

Bred by Amelia Park Racing and Breeding P/L, WA and offered by Segenhoe Stud, Scone at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the bay colt was purchased by a group comprising Rosemont Alliance, Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) and Annabel Neasham Racing P/L for $900,000.

Now co-trained by Neasham and Rob Archibald, the victory took Bosustow’s record to two wins and five placings from 12 starts for prize-money and bonuses totalling $1,950,750.

A former champion sprinter for Godolphin in the UK, Blue Point (IRE) is the only galloper to win three G1 races at Royal Ascot.

Since commencing stud duties in 2020, the stallion has sired 165 winners of 270 races worldwide.

Blue Point currently holds second place behind Too Darn Hot in the second-season sires table, boasting an impressive 25 winners this season.

Bosustow was his 15th individual Stakes winner and followed recent victories by Icarian Dream in the G3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes over 1,200m at Eagle Farm on 21 December, and Vein Girl in the $250,000 Magic Millions The Debut 2YO Plate over 1,000m at the Gold Coast a day earlier.

At the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale last week a Blue Point colt out of US mare Dancing Brave Bear fetched $400,000 and the sire has two lots in the catalogue for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney on 9-11 February.
