Street Boss is a consistent sire of Stakes winners who is capable of siring the “big horse” all breeders strive for. Similar to his outstanding sire Street Cry, he wasn’t fully appreciated during his first season and even skipped a year on the shuttle. This led to him being underrated throughout much of his career until the past three years, when he received his best books at higher fees. There will be fireworks to come.

Street Boss sired G1 Newmarket winner The Quarterback in his first Australian crop, and it’s fair to say that if he had returned for a second successive season and sired another G1 winner, he would have been “hot property.”

Key statistics
Street Boss’ stats are impressive:

• 9 G1 winners, including Champion Anamoe
• 73 Stakes winners (SW) from 1,360 runners worldwide, which is over 5.3% SW to runners
• On the shuttle, he has left 543 runners, 26 SW, and 4 G1 winners, which is over 4.7% SW to runners off low fees.

More significantly, his best horses are an elite group, including not just G1 winners like Anamoe, Pinstriped and The Quarterback, but also high-class runners like:

• Traffic Warden (G2 winner, 2nd G1 Golden Rose)
• Hanseatic (2nd G1 Blue Diamond Stakes)
• Arcaded (2nd Blue Diamond Prelude)
• Pericles (2nd Rosehill Guineas)
• Petits Filous (Quezette Stakes)

That’s a wonderful rate of elite production off a low fee and with an interrupted career. The next Anamoe could well be in the pipeline.

Street Boss has sired three of his nine G1 winners out of mares by Australia’s leading broodmare sires, Redoute’s Choice, Encosta de Lago and Exceed And Excel.

• Overall, he has nine G1 winners, all out of mares by different broodmare sires, indicating his versatility.
• 6/9 G1 winners have a return of Mr. Prospector in the mare.
• 4/11 of his best horses, including G1 winners and runners-up, have a return of Danehill.

Street Boss has three Australian sired G1 winners who are out of mares by Australia’s three leading broodmare sires: Redoute’s Choice, Encosta de Lago and Exceed And Excel. These are all Northern Dancer lines, two being Danehill/Danzig line and it is worth mentioning that emerging talent Another Wil is also out of a Danzig line mare who carries two lines of Northern Dancer.

Overall, he has EIGHT G1 winners, all out of mares by different broodmare sires indicating his versatility.

• 5/8 G1 winners have a return of Mr Prospector in the mare
• 2/8 G1 winners plus G1 2nd Hanseatic have a return of Danehill in the mare.

Best nicks
Street Boss has most of his Australian stakes winners out of mares by Exceed And Excel and Lonhro.

• His best percentages of Stakes winners to runners (with at least 10 named foals) are from mares by Lonhro, Exceed And Excel, Fastnet Rock, Danehill Dancer, Testa Rossa and Encosta de Lago, all of which can easily be found in Australia. They all have at least 10% Stakes winners to runners with Street Boss as the sire.
• Street Boss has a strong nick with Exceed And Excel, a mix that has produced 10% Stakes winners to runners, including G1 winner Elite Street.
• 78% of his Stakes winners have a return of Mr. Prospector in the mare, including six of his nine G1 winners.

There’s also an emerging nick between Street Boss and daughters of Snitzel, which has already produced G1 winner Pinstriped among the two winners from its first seven runners.

Inbreeding / Linebreeding options
The most obvious candidate for inbreeding to the pedigree of Street Boss is the mare Helen Street, dam of his sire Street Cry. Helen Street is proving to be an influential mare. Results of inbreeding to her include multiple G1 winner Victor Ludorum, G2 winner and G1-placed Lucida, G3 winner Shocking Luck, G1 Victoria Derby runner-up Southern Moon, the talented Stakes-placed Spirit Of Gaylard and first two-starts Caulfield Saturday winner, rising star Cute As, who is by Thronum out of a Street Cry mare.

These early results are encouraging. This is a pattern worth repeating, and it can be achieved using mares by Shamardal or his sons, such as Lope de Vega, Puissance de Lune, Gingerbread Man, and Crackerjack King. Daughters of Thronum (by Snitzel) also provide potential for this inbreeding strategy.

Exceed And Excel Line:
Send mares by Exceed And Excel or with him in the pedigree as this is the best nick for Street Boss. Mares by other sons of Danehill such as Redoute’s Choice, Fastnet Rock or Danehill Dancer and his son Choisir would be another worthwhile part of this strategy. Send mares by Exceed And Excel or with him in the pedigree, as this is the best nick for Street Boss.

Inbreeding to Helen Street:
Achieved using mares by Shamardal and his sons, Lope de Vega and his sons, or Thronum. The desired effect can occur with these sires anywhere in the mare’s pedigree.

Mr. Prospector Line:

Zabeel and Seattle Slew Line:
Street Boss and his sire Street Cry have had considerable success with returns of Zabeel and Seattle Slew in the mare. Sources of Zabeel are readily available via Lonhro and sons. Seattle Slew is harder to find but includes Better Than Ready, Rebel Dane, Super One, and Justify (whose oldest daughters are turning three).

Snitzel Line:
Mares by Snitzel or his sons look like great options for Street Boss, replicating the strong early nick that produced G1 winner Pinstriped.
