Darley Australia is thrilled to announce its ongoing partnership with the Australian Turf Club, centred around the prestigious Darley Princess Series, a four-leg race series highlighting the best three-year-old fillies in the country.
Originating in 1985, the Darley Princess Series encompasses four Group races that kick off the spring season, attracting trainers and owners in pursuit of Group success. Spanning a six-week period, the series offers substantial prize money and coveted Black-Type status, while rewarding the winning breeder with nominations to a Darley stallion.
This year, the series aligns with four first-season sires in Australia. The Darley Princess Series at Royal Randwick includes:
- G2 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m on Saturday, 24 August
- G2 Darley Furious Stakes over 1400m on Saturday, 7 September
- G2 Darley Tea Rose Stakes over 1400m on Saturday, 21 September
- G1 Darley Flight Stakes over 1400m on Saturday 5 October
The winning breeder will receive a nomination to one of the following stallions respectively:
- Golden Mile, the Caulfield Guineas winner, retired with over $4.3 million in prize money, surpassing Shinzo, Cylinder and Ozzmosis (G2 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes).
- Triple Time, Frankel’s best-miling son, won the G1 Queen Anne Stakes, defeating four champions (G2 Darley Furious Stakes).
- Native Trail, a Champion Two-Year-Old from the same sire line as I Am Invincible (G2 Darley Tea Rose Stakes).
- Cylinder, a multiple G2-winning two-year-old, trained on to land the G1 Newmarket Handicap (G1 Darley Flight Stakes).
These nominations are available for use by the winning breeder (only) for the 2024 or 2025 seasons.
In 2023, Autumn Ballet, Tiz Invincible and Tropical Squall claimed victories, securing nominations for their breeders: Arrowfield Stud, Phoenix Thoroughbred and Kooringal Stud.
Alastair Pulford, Head of Stallions at Darley Australia, expressed his excitement for the Darley Princess Series' sixth year, emphasising its consistent showcase of best three-year-old fillies.
"We're committed to supporting Black-Type and Group racing, rewarding breeders who achieve significant milestones.
“The Black-Type racing aspect drives trainers, owners and breeders to target these races and we enhance this by offering winning breeders a nomination to one of the Darley stallions."
"This year, breeders have the chance to secure a nomination in Cylinder, Golden Mile, Triple Time and Native Trail, all G1 winners standing their first season at stud in 2024."
Nevesh Ramdhani, ATC's new Head of Racing and Wagering, looks forward to coordinating his first Darley Princess Series, highlighting its significance in Australian racing.
"The Australian Turf Club is thrilled to partner with Darley for the Darley Princess Series, Australia’s premier racing event for three-year-old fillies," Ramdhani stated.
"This series elevates our breeding and racing industries globally and we are proud to continue our long-standing partnership with Darley."
Nominations for the Darley Silver Shadow Stakes close at 11am on Monday, 19 August.
