A filly from the first crop Exosphere has sold for $230,000 on a day of solid early results for Darley stallions at the Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale.
Consigned by Kenmore Lodge the filly is from the Stakes-winning Captain Rio mare She Goes To Rio and is related to a string of good winners including Blevvo, True Spirit and Spirit Of Hope.
She was signed for by Francis and Christine Cook of Mystery Downs.
The opening session of Australia’s first yearling sale of the year also proved a strong one for Exosphere’s fellow freshman Kermadec whose filly from the unraced Commands mare Previous sold for $240,000.
The filly went to the bid of one of Hong Kong’s most prominent buyers, George Moore Bloodstock.
Earlier in the session another Kermadec yearling, a colt from Stakes-winning mare Pimms Time sold for $140,000 to leading agent Guy Mulcaster and Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller.
Both Exosphere (Lonhro) and Kermadec (Teofilo) were the star three-year-olds of their generation and their strong results reflected the market’s acceptance of them as stallions.
While the freshmen made their mark, Darley’s US-based Medaglia d’Oro showed he is still in demand in Australia by providing the first seven-figure yearling of the sale.
His colt from the G1-winning Myboychalie mare Peggy Jean, consigned by Widden Stud, grabbed the attention of the packed auditorium before being knocked down to Marie Yoshida of Asian Bloodstock Services for $1 million.
Ms Yoshida said the colt would remain in Australia to be trained by Peter and Paul Snowden.
