If anyone knows what a good Brazen Beau yearling should look like it is the man who “discovered” him, Grant Morgan.
So it should be no surprise that Morgan will be taking home a Brazen Beau colt he believes is among the picks of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Morgan struck on day two, his Ontrack Thoroughbreds signing for Lot 418, a half-brother to the G1 winner Tivaci.
The colt offered by Bhima Stud is by the Fastnet Rock mare Breccia whose family also includes the good racehorses Allez Wonder and Pretty Pins.
Morgan went to $220,000 for the colt, a figure he described as “an amazing price”.
“Brazen Beau’s had such great results, he’s got the Golden Slipper favourite Tassort, he’s had a Stakes winner," said Mogran.
”He could hardly be doing better.”
Morgan purchased Brazen Beau as a yearling in 2012, syndicating the colt who duly became Australia’s champion sprinter and who went on to finish second in the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2015.
While Brazen Beau raced for the “mum’s and dad’s” Ontrack syndicate at Royal Ascot, he had already been purchased by Sheikh Mohammed and began stud duties at Darley’s Northwood Park on his return to Australia.
Morgan backed his faith in the stallion by purchasing four yearlings last year from the stallion’s first crop, and he’s looking for more.
Late in the session, a colt by Brazen Beau from the Danerich mare Classy Chloe sold for $625,000.
Brazen Beau has made a terrific start with this first runners, thank in no small part to his son Tassort, a winner by five lengths at his only start and the reigning favourite for Australia’s premier juvenile race, the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes.
