It is, of course, still very early days, but even so it was pleasing to see Strategic take the lead in the Australian General Sires’ Table over the third weekend of August, when his four winners included the boom three-year-old Desuetude in the G3 Run To The Rose at Rosehill.
The unbeaten Desuetude, a son of the winning Unbridled’s Song mare Martella, currently rates as one of the most exciting prospects in Sydney. Having won on debut at Hawkesbury towards the end of his juvenile campaign, he has now already won twice as a three-year-old, winning both lead-up races to the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m), due to be run at Rosehill on 30 August. He will obviously have a great chance there, following his wins in the Rosebud (1200m) and the Run To The Rose (1300m).
Desuetude was the first leg of a metropolitan double for Strategic, as his daughter Michelle Cafea won over 1100m at Doomben the same afternoon. Wins for Schibello at Newcastle and Count For Three at Horsham took the sire’s tally for the weekend to four, meaning that Strategic had been responsible for nine winners in the first three weeks of the season. Having previously sired the likes of the ill-fated champion juvenile Meurice, Strategic clearly remains a sire to follow, and represents great value for his fee of $16,500 (inc. GST).
