Gilgai to Platelet
Racing second up after finishing just behind Exceed And Excel’s son Kuroshio at Moonee Valley a few weeks back, the dual G1-winning Strategic mare Platelet toughed it out right to the line, achieving her fifth career Stakes victory, winning the G2 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington on October 5.
Settling not too far behind speedy mare Steps In Time down the Flemington straight, as the whips were cracking, jockey Michelle Payne urged her mare through a narrow gap and she responded, taking the race by three-quarters-of-a-length and taking her career earnings past the $1 milllion mark.
Bred by Mr G H Forbes, Platelet is out of the Dracula mare Bloodline, a half-sister to the Gr placed Grand Britannia, from the family of G2 winner Hockey and the Listed winner Bordeaux and Domine.
The sire of four G1 winners including Champion two-year-old Meurice, Mistegic and Strategic News, Strategic is standing the current breeding season at Northwood Park at a fee of $5,500 (inc. GST).
