An honest performance and a clever ride extended the winning sequence being put together by Midland and gave Brazen Beau another Stakes winner in Saturday’s Listed (Restricted) Inglis 3YO Guineas at Rosehill.
Midland followed wins at Wyong and Warwick Farm with his latest victory over Nicci’s Fling and Exoboom, a success that resulted in his racetrack earnings being on par with his $550,000 purchase price as a yearling.
Jockey Brenton Avdulla had the gelding travelling smoothly behind the leaders from the start and was poised to make his challenge at the 200m.
When called on, Midland quickly took control and held on strongly to score by three-quarters of a length.
Trainer Kris Lees said the decision to geld Midland after his previous preparation had made all the difference.
“We made a difficult decision, but he’s come back a much better horse,” Lees said.
Midland, a son of the Dubawi mare Pouter, becomes the 12th Stakes winner for Brazen Beau who will stand the coming southern-hemisphere season at a service fee of $49,500 including GST, at Northwood Park, Victoria.
