Brazen Beau sprinter Taunting was ridden with intent and proved far too good for his rivals at Morphettville on Saturday, 22 February, winning the Listed City of Marion Stakes over 1,200m in fast time.
Taken straight to the front by young jockey Jess Tzaferis, Taunting never looked likely to be run down when beating Klabel by 1.6 lengths. My Khalifa was a half-length away in third place in 1 minute 9.31 seconds.
The victory was the six-year-old’s second Stakes win and took his record to nine wins and five placings from 24 starts for earnings $573,560.
Trained by Michael Hickmott at Wellington in South Australia, Taunting had won the Listed Railway Stakes over 1,100m at Oakbank in 2023.
Bred by Bridsan Bloodstock out of the Australian mare Probationary, who also has a two-year-old colt by Brazen Beau (Cautionary), Taunting was offered by Flinders Park Stud at the 2020 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and bought by Michael Hickmott Bloodstock for $230,000.
Brazen Beau was a dual G1 winner of the 2014 Coolmore Stud Stakes and the 2015 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington during his brilliant 12-start career.
The stallion has since sired 329 winners of 943 races, including 27 Stakes-race winners of 46 Black-Type events.
A bold front-running ride from Taunting pays off as he gets back into the winner's circle for the first time since late 2023 🙌@mhbloodstock @jessikate93 pic.twitter.com/qQi3EF64D5
