There will be much anticipation when Lot 208 (pictured below), a colt by Medaglia d’Oro walks into the ring at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale beginning in Sydney on 9 April.
The colt from the multi-million dollar mare Listen Here is a half-brother to both Shooting To Win and Deep Field, two outstanding racehorses whose first crop yearlings are also bound to be in demand.
As well as producing Shooting To Win and Deep Field, Listen Here’s third foal to race, Look And Listen is also a winner and her subsequent Zoustar filly Zaniah sold for A$1million last Easter and has trialled well in New Zealand this month.
The Listen Here colt is one of 15 yearlings by Medaglia d’Oro catalogued over the three days of a sale that also features strong line-ups from other Darley “blue-chip” stallions Exceed And Excel and Lonhro.
Listen Here (pictured below) herself fetched A$3.4 million at the 2016 Magic Million National Broodmare Sale when sold in foal to Medaglia d’Oro.
Medaglia d’Oro, whose offspring include the champion American filly Rachel Alexandra, Songbird, Talismanic, the Golden Slipper winner Vancouver and Golden Rose winner Astern, achieved the second top-priced lot at the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale with a colt from the General Nediym mare Hoss Amor who sold for A$2.4 million as Lot 178.
Among other Medaglia d’Oro yearlings attracting plenty of interest are:
- Lot 160, a filly from the stakes-winning Fastnet Rock mare Gybe, a half-sister to the champion NZ two-year-old Anabandana;
- Lot 63, a colt from a sister to Australian Champion Filly Earthquake;
- Lot 125, a colt from a sister to G2 winner Headwater, from the family of G1 winner River Dove.
Exceed And Excel whose yearlings averaged A$520,000 at this sale last year, has a typically strong presence again.
Notable among his offering is Lot 111 (pictured below), a colt from the Elusive Quality mare Emotional Circus who is closely-related to champion racehorse and stallion Fastnet Rock; Lot 306, a filly from a half-sister to Australian Champion 2YO and 3YO filly English; and Lot 196 a filly from a half sister to G1 Cox Plate winner and sire Ocean Park and from the family of G1 Golden Slipper winner Courtza, the dam of successful stallion O’Reilly.
Lonhro, whose son Kementari has just joined his list of G1 winners and who maintains a winners-to-runners ratio of better than 71 per cent, has a quality selection catalogued, including Lot 236, a filly from the Stakes-winner Miss Gai Flyer (Flying Spur) from the family of Golden Slipper winner Ha Ha, G1 Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed and G1 ATC Champagne Stakes winner Go Indy Go.
Also attracting plenty of pre-sale interest is Lot 112 (pictured below), a half-brother by Lonhro to the G2 Kewney Stakes winner Empress Rock, from Empress Jade, who is a half-sister to the world champion sprinter Silent Witness.
