The former champion sprinter Brazen Beau swept past another landmark in his short stud career with the sale of a yearling filly for A$700,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale on Tuesday, 10 April.
The figure is the highest achieved by Brazen Beau with his first crop and a glowing endorsement for the Darley stallion.
Leading trainer Tony McEvoy succeeded in brisk bidding on the filly from the Encosta de Lago mare Pretty Penny catalogued as Lot 297 (vision below).
The filly is a half-sister to the Stakes winners Sertorius, Dollar For Dollar and Clifton Red from the family of G1 Golden Slipper winner Tontonan.
For McEvoy, the filly is the third high-priced Brazen Beau yearling he has purchased this year, having paid A$275,000 and A$200,000 for two colts at the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale in January.
“There is a lot to like about the Brazen Beau’s I’ve seen, they tend to throw to their sire who was an outstanding sprinter,” McEvoy said.
“We’re very happy to be taking them home.”
Day Two of the Inglis sale also provided more strong results for Darley’s world-class source of speed and reliability, Exceed And Excel.
Each of the seven Exceed And Excel yearlings offered in the session were sold, the group grossing A$2.645 million with a top price of A$800,000 being paid by Hong Kong-based George Moore Bloodstock for a colt from the Hussonet mare Girl Hussler offered as Lot 151.
The colt was consigned by Segenhoe Stud.
Another Hong Kong Agent Apollo Ng, paid A$550,000 for the Exceed And Excel colt from the winning Quest For Fame mare Kidman.
Offered by Newhaven Park as Lot 187 (vision below), the colt is from the family of champion sprinter Zeditave and is half-brother to the Singapore Stakes winners Zac Spirit and Zac Influence.
The sale’s second session produced eight sales of A$1 million or more, taking the total of seven figure yearlings sold in the first two days to 15.
