First foals for Authorized

With daily reports of foals being born, two Darley stallions have recently welcomed the arrival of their first foals

Champion three-year-old Authorized, winner of the G1 Epsom Derby and G1 Juddmonte International, covered an excellent book of mares during his first southern hemisphere season including G1 and G2 winners My Brilliant Star, Pay My Bail, Almah and Dandify; the dams of G1 winners Shot Of Thunder and Yell; plus the siblings to G1 winners Neroli, Mossman, Mummify, Slight Chance and Rough Habit.

Arriving late last week, the first reported foal for Authorized (pictured), was a brown colt out of the Quest For Fame mare Beauty Belle. Bred by Canning Downs, the colt is from the family of Stakes performers Pray For Reign, Kensign, Tumble Home, Delusion and Time To Go.

Another recent arrival was a bay colt of the Bite The Bullet mare Bella Reina, a half-sister to G1 winners Slavonic and Bedouin, and multiple Stakes winner Rockford Bay.

Bella Reina’s third foal, a colt by fellow Darley stallion Exceed And Excel was sold at the Inglis Easter yearling sale where he was knocked down to Paul Messara for $350,000, the highest priced colt by his sire sold this year.

An extraordinary racetrack performer, Authorized broke his maiden in a G1 as a juvenile who went on to record a five-length Derby win before dominating Dylan Thomas, Notnowcato and Duke of Marmalade in the G1 Juddmonte International of his Classic year. From the stallion-making family of Champion sire Green Dancer, Authorized’s pedigree also includes outstanding three-year-old Dubawi colt Makfi, recent winner of the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.

Fellow European Champion three-year-old New Approach has also been in the news of late, with a further three foals born in recent days - all chestnut in colour like their five-time G1 winning sire.

Daylami mare Takriyma foaled the first reported filly for the Champion galloper on August 15, while the next day saw the Redoute’s Choice mare Vonzelle, a half-sister to the dual G1 winner Sudurka, foal a colt.  From the family of G1 winners My Brilliant Star, Shot Of Thunder and Lachlan River, the colt is bred on the very successful Sadler’s Wells-Danehill cross which has produced G1 winners Tuesday Joy (Carnegie), Cima De Triomphe (Galileo) and Darley’s very own Teofilo (Galileo).

Born on August 17, a colt out of the well-bred Rory’s Jester mare Marokish was also foaled. A half-sister to the multiple G1-winning Champion three-year-old Universal Prince and his G1 Robert Sangster winning sister Universal Queen, Marokish comes from the family of successful Sadler’s Wells line stallion, Blevic.

Authorized will stand the upcoming breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $27,500 including GST, while New Approach will headline the the Northwood Park roster at a fee of $33,000 including GST.
