The multiple G1 winner Kermadec became the new leader among the Darley stallions represented at the Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney when his first-crop colt from the Street Sense mare Loading Zone sold for $280,000 on Monday, 11 February.
The price is the highest paid for a Kermadec yearling and placed the son of Teofilo among an elite group of stallions whose yearlings have made six-figures at this sale.
Consigned by Two Bays Farm, the colt was knocked down to Triple Crown Syndications who had already bought a Kermadec colt at the Classic sale, along with yearlings by Exosphere and Epaulette.
On a day when a filly by fellow first-season sire Exosphere made $200,000, a Brazen Beau filly sold for $220,000, and colts by Epaulette and Street Boss fetched $100,000, it was Kermadec among the Darley stallions who led the way.
Listed as Lot 457, the colt is a half brother to Military Zone (Epaulette) who is also a member of the Triple Crown team and is from the family of the G1 winner and successful sire Toorak Toff and the Stakes winners Super Lacuna and Scarlet Rain.
Demand for the stock of Exosphere, who earlier in the week had established a personal record of his own, continued to inspire strong bidding with his filly from the Strategic mare Intendment making $200,000, his fourth of the sale to sell for six-figures.
Intendment is a half-sister to the four-time G1 winner Appearance (Commands) who raced in Sheikh Mohammed’s colours.
The filly offered by Valiant Stud was knocked down to Sydney trainer Ron Quinton.
Brazen Beau, who topped the 2018 Classic Sale, had two six-figure results on Day 3, the first, Lot 366, a filly from the Fastnet Rock mare Head Over Heels who is closely related to Stakes-winning New Zealand filly Serena Miss and good South African winner New Predator (New Approach).
A member of the Yarraman Park draft, she went to a bid of $220,000 from Jadeskye Racing and trainer Brad Widdup.
Later in the session Lot 544, a colt by Brazen Beau from the Lonhro mare Ms Mazetti from the Bowness Stud draft, went to Hong Kong buyer Augustine Wong for $200,000.
The Classic Sale continues on Tuesday, 12 February with the final Book 1 session.
