Brazen Beau has confirmed his place as Australia’s leading young stallion, topping Book 1 of the Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney for the second successive year and setting a sale record.
The Darley stallion also produced the second top-priced yearling of the sale and led the averages.
Brazen Beau’s record-breaking sale-topper at $550,000 was Lot 609, a colt from the Dubawi mare Pouter, offered by Murulla Stud and purchased by New Zealand-based agent Bruce Perry.
Murulla also consigned Brazen Beau when he sold for $70,000 at the 2013 Classic Sale.
Brazen Beau’s domination of Tuesday’s final session extended to Lot 666, his colt from the Commands mare Rose Of Hallowell, who fetched $480,000, the second highest price of the week.
The latest sale results come after Brazen Beau led the same sale with his first crop last year and in a racing season in which he is responsible for two of the best juveniles seen in this country this season, Tassort and Accession.
The top-priced Brazen Beau-Pouter colt is a half-brother to three winners, including Rock Dove who won a Listed race in Tasmania last weekend, and is from a strong American family that includes the G1 Mother Goose Stakes winner Dreams Galore and her Stakes-winning half-brothers Absent Friend and Fateful Dream.
The Brazen Beau-Rose Of Hallowell colt, offered by Aquis Farm and purchased by Victorian farm Laceby Lodge, is out of a sister to Court Command whose four Stakes wins include the Golden Rose, then a G3 race and now a G1.
The demand for Brazen Beau stock this week follows a strong showing at January’s Magic Millions Sale where 11 of his yearlings made six figures, the highest price of $625,000 being paid for a filly from Classy Chloe.
In 2018 his first-crop colt from Pretty Penny made $700,000 at the Inglis Easter Sale. He races as Pretty Brazen and has been placed at Flemington.
The first northern-hemisphere crop of the former champion sprinter also sold well in Europe last year, making up to £100,000 in Britain and €130,000 in France.
Among the other Darley stallions represented at the Classic sale, Kermadec, Exosphere, Exceed And Excel, Epaulette and Medaglia d’Oro all achieved six-figure results with Kermadec in second place on the list of first-season sires and Exosphere in third.
