Appearance goes out on top
Darley has retired four-time G1 winner Appearance after the daughter of Commands suffered an injury during training.
The only mare in history to win the G1 treble of the Myer Classic, Coolmore Classic and Queen of the Turf Stakes in the one season, Appearance returned in career-best form this Autumn, winning the G2 Expressway Stakes and G2 Apollo Stakes before claiming her fourth victory at the elite level in the G1 Canterbury Stakes.
Darley Australia Managing Director, Henry Plumptre said; “Obviously we are disappointed that her career is over but she has been a wonderful race mare for Darley and Sheikh Mohammed and she owes us nothing.”
“She is a classic example of the consistency of her sire Commands – tough, genuine and capable of competing at the highest level.”
Trained by Guy Walter, Appearance won nine races in a 19-start career and amassed in excess of $1.7 million in prizemoney.
