Too Darn Hot, a champion on the racetrack and buyers have now shown their desire for the stallion’s progeny at the 2022 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale at Riverside Stables.
Three colts by the Champion Two-Year-Old, were his first weanlings to sell on the Australian market, finishing the sale with an average of $165,167 making him the leading sire by average.
His top lot, out of the Majesty - the dam of recent Stakes winner Lady Of Honour, was offered by Fairhill Farm in NSW.
The colt fetched a whopping $320,000 and was knocked down to Peter O’Brien, principal of POB Bloodstock Pty Ltd.
“We’re big fans (of Too Darn Hot),” Peter O’Brien told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“His pedigree is just off the charts.
“Between Segenhoe (Stud) mares and clients’ mares I think we’re the biggest supporter of his.
“I think we’ve got 15 mares back in foal to him and have nine going back to him this year as well.”
By a multiple G1 winner in the immortal Dubawi out of a triple G1-winning mare in Dar Re Mi, Too Darn Hot won six races and was placed three times from only nine starts.
In 2018 he won the G1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket over 1,400m during his unbeaten juvenile season.
At three, he added the G1 Sussex Stakes (1,600m) at Goodwood and the G1 Prix Jean Prat over 1,400m at Deauville in France.
Too Darn Hot was fully booked in his first two seasons at stud, covering 64 Stakes winners - 16 of which were successful in G1 company.
O’Brien was thrilled to buy the weanling even if he spent a little more than expected.
“This fella will be right up there (with the other foals on the farm) when he comes back to Segenhoe,” O’Brien said.
“He’s as good a foal as I’ve seen all year.
“If all of them (Too Darn Hot’s offspring) are like this fella, it’s a no-brainer really.
“He’s a magnificent type, a great mover and from a great farm, so for us he was a no-brainer.
“At the end of the day, we expected he’d make around $300,000 so we had to go a little bit more, but we’re delighted to get him.”
Too Darn Hot returns to Kelvinside, New South Wales in 2022 standing at an unchanged fee of $44,000 including GST.
