Sprint success for Masamah

Exceed And Excel gelding lands his second Listed race

Masamah, by Darley stallion Exceed And Excel, landed his second Listed race of his career when winning the City Wall Stakes over York's 1000m trip. An admirably consistent gelding, he has now won seven races in a 19 run career including the Listed Queensferry Stakes at Chester last season.

Bred by Stanley Estate & Mount Coote Stud, Masamah is one of four winners bred by the Distant Relative mare Bethesda, herself a half-sister to G1 Middle Park winner, Fard.

Masamah becomes Exceed And Excel's 15th Stakes winner of 2011 and to put this achievement into perspective, only Galileo can beat this figure with 16. His nearest pursuers with 14 stakes winners are Dansili and Encosta de Lago, while stallion such as Montjeu, More Than Ready, Redoute's Choice, Giant's Causeway, Street Cry, Danehill Dancer and Distorted Humor all have either 12 or 13 Stakes winners apiece.

Standing the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST), Exceed And Excel’s current book of yearlings and weanlings are out of some of the best mares he has covered, including G1-winning mares Allow, Carry On Cutie, Champagne, Ellicorsam, GrandArchway, Hasna, Hill Of Grace, Lashed, Lovelorn, MissAndretti, Mnemosyne, One Under, Recurring, Rose Archway, Ruffles, Shame, Upsetthym, Virage de Fortune, Camarilla, Preserve, RinkyDink and River Dove.
