Medaglia d'Oro colt remains unbeaten

Vancouver leads home Darley-sired 1-2-3 in G2 Todman Stakes

Unbeaten Medaglia d'Oro colt Vancouver ensured he will start one of the shortest-priced G1 Golden Slipper favourites in years following his dominant win in the G2 Todman Stakes at Randwick, March 7.

Two weeks out from the Golden Slipper, the Todman Stakes saw the first clash between Vancouver and boom Exceed And Excel colts Headwater and Furnaces. Furnaces led early with Vancouver on his outside and Headwater having no luck at all out three-wide with no cover. As they straightened for the run in, Vancouver and Furnaces sprinted clear of Headwater with Vancouver proving far too strong over the final 200m, recording a most-impressive three-length win.

Bred by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds, Vancouver is the third Stakes winner from Danehill’s Listed performer Skates, also the dam of G1 winner Juste Momente and Listed winner Captain Coltish. Skates produced a colt by Lonhro’s G1 Golden Slipper winner Pierro in the Spring before being covered by Medaglia d’Oro.

Medaglia d’Oro is the world’s leading sire by Stakes winners in 2015 with nine including G1 winner Mshawish as well as Java, a recent winner of the G3 Manfred Stakes at Sandown. He has 12 entries in next month’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and they can be viewed by clicking here.
