Exceed And Excel gelding Flamberge led home a Darley-sired quinella in the G3 Standish Handicap over 1200m at Flemington, January 1, defeating Bernardini gelding Essay Raider.
Flamberge, who raced handy to the speed and proved far too strong, becomes the 77th Stakes winner for Australia’s reigning Champion stallion Exceed And Excel.
A full-brother to Listed winner and G1-placed mare Curtana, Flamberge is out of G3-winning Blazing Sword mare Razor Blade who is also the dam of G2-winning and G1-placed sprinter Sunburnt Land.
A homebred for David and Jenny Moodie’s Contract Racing Pty Ltd Flamberge has a two-year-old half-brother by Medaglia d'Oro called Durendal and a yearling half-brother by Hard Spun.
