The brilliance that has marked the appearance of the first crops of Frosted in both the US and Australia had its impact on demand for his second crop at Thursday’s session of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
Frosted has had 18 winners to date, with his first Stakes winner, Ingratiating making a big impression winning at Flemington in October.
That victory, and the more recent success of the filly Frost Flowers at the same track this month, were prominent in the mind of Melbourne trainer Ciaron Maher as he topped the bidding at $230,000 for Frosted’s filly from the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes placegetter Maka Ena.
A half-sister to two winners, the filly’s second dam Living Spirit is a Stakes winner who, in turn, produced the G3 winner Seaside. The filly was consigned by Coolmore Australia.
“The Frosted’s have certainly been up-and-running here early in the season, both his Flemington winners have been very impressive,” Maher said.
Frosted’s continued appeal with local buyers follows the $650,000 paid for one of his first-crop yearlings at this sale last year.
Maka Ena is a daughter of Darley’s champion sire Exceed And Excel who continued to exert his presence at the sale with his colt from the Street Sense mare Melba Avenue making $470,000.
The colt is a half-brother to the six-time Stakes winner Valour Road from a family that includes the G1 winners Flavour and Sonntag (Teofilo), as well as the multiple Stakes winner Raspberries (Lonhro).
Consigned by Amarina Farm, the colt was purchased by the Hong Kong Jockey club for inclusion in its International Sale in December.
