Denman delivers on the Coast

With three yearlings by the G1 Golden Rose winner going through the ring on day one of the Magic Millions yearling sale on the Gold Coast, interest was high and they sold accordingly.

The first Denman yearling to go through the ring was knocked down to leading syndication company Star Thoroughbreds for $90,000. Offered from the draft of Fig Tree Thoroughbreds (as agent), lot 6 was a brown colt out of the G3-winning Sir Cat mare Lady Cat.

Topping his draft was lot 124, a black or brown filly out of the Stakes performed Redoute’s Choice mare Pachanga. Consigned through the draft of Glenlogan Park, the filly was knocked down to South Australian-based trainer Tony McEvoy for $200,000, a significant return on investment on the $33,000 service fee of that year.

Later in the day the final Denman yearling of day one was purchased by Magic Millions as agent for New Zealand clients. Knocked down for $120,000, lot 165 is a bay or brown colt out of the Zabeel mare Racy Smytzer, a three-quarter sister to G1 Queensland oaks winner Vouvray. With a pedigree that contains a double cross of the great Zabeel, it is no surprise it was purchased by New Zealand clients, the home of Zabeel.

Denman wasn’t the only Darley first-season sire to sell well, with lot 160, a bay or brown colt by Medaglia d'Oro out of the Dubai Destination mare Queenofthefaeries selling for $155,000 to Champion Thoroughbreds from the draft of Broadwater Thoroughbreds as agent.
