Another commanding effort for Rain Affair

Commands gelding Rain Affair delivers a knockout blow to record his fourth Stakes win

Winning back to back races is often hard, so to win nine on end is a remarkable achievement. Commands gelding Rain Affair, the winner of 10 races from 11 starts, the last nine in succession, recorded arguably his most impressive victory on February 25, winning the G2 Apollo Stakes over 1400m at Rosehill.

With his victory, Rain Affair broke the long-standing record for the most consecutive wins in Sydney by the great Peter Pan.

Jumping away from the gates a little more calmly than normal, Rain Affair settled in front of the high-class field of runners which included nine G1 performers. Travelling well within himself throughout the race, jockey Corey Brown allowed Rain Affair to stride out rounding the home turn, extending his margin to go on and win by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

Expected to head to Melbourne for his next start in the G1 Newmarket Handicap, Rain Affair was bred by Mr DW Storey and Mrs V G Storey and is out of the Octagonal mare I Believe, a half-sister to Stakes winner Walk Alone. I Believe has a Shamardal two-year-old named Gullible in the stable of Chris Waller, a Domesday weanling colt and was covered by Exceed And Excel in the last breeding season.

Currently sitting on 99 individual winners this season, Commands has sired more winners in the past three season than any other stallion in Australia and will be represented by eight yearlings at the forthcoming Inglis Premier yearling sale which commences on February 27, and a further nine yearlings at the Inglis Easter yearling sale in April.
