75th Stakes winner for Exceed And Excel

Liesele claims Listed Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield

Six-year-old Exceed And Excel mare Liesele became the 75th Stakes winner for her sire with a fast-finishing win in the Listed Alinghi Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield, October 19.

A masterful ride from an outside barrier by jockey Damien Browne allowed the durable mare to break her Stakes duck at her 37th start. After settling towards the rear of the field, Browne stuck to rails with Liesele rounding the home turn and gained an inside run with 200m to run. Liesele burst through and went on to win by three-quarters of a length. Lonhro mare Lonhspresso was a very unlucky third after being held up for a run.

Bred by Mr B and Mrs J Hudson, Liesele is out of G2-placed Dehere mare Love’s Here, a sister to G3 winner Spirit Of Love. From eight runners out of Dehere mares, Exceed And Excel has produced six winners including another Stakes winner in the Mick Price-trained Eximius.

Australia’s reigning Champion stallion, among Exceed And Excel’s 75 Stakes winners are six G1 winners. They include this week’s G1 Thousand Guineas winner Guelph and triple G1 winners Helmet and Excelebration.

Exceed And Excel is standing the current season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 inc. GST, while Helmet is standing at Northwood Park at a fee of $33,000 inc. GST.
