Modern History, a son of Shamardal, recorded his first Stakes victory when winning the Listed Prix Aymeri de Mauleon over a mile at Toulouse on Friday April 29.
This was his third career start, and second victory, after a lone juvenile run when fourth at Saint-Cloud and an impressive all-the-way win from subsequent G3-scorer Glaswegian on his three-year-old debut at Longchamp. He still holds an entry in the French 2,000 Guineas in just over a fortnight's time.
Bred by Darley, he is out of the Stakes-winning dam Fatefully and a half-brother to G1 Nassau Stakes winner Favourable Terms. Fatefully also has a two-year-old colt by Teofilo, named Maimon, a colt foal by Street Cry and has just been covered by Bernardini.
Shamardal, who stands at Kelvinside, NSW for $88,000, has now sired 28 Stakes winners with four at the highest level including Casamento, who lines up in the 2,000 Guineas on Saturday April 30.
