Fresh from siring his first Stakes winner at his first attempt on Sunday, Teofilo recorded his fourth individual winner at Haydock when his daughter, Viola d'Amour stayed on well to run out a game neck winner of a well-contested six-furlong Maiden. Commenting afterwards, her trainer Tom Dascombe stated that he thought she was a Stakes filly in the making.
A €44,000 yearling, she was bred by Denis Brosnan and Patsy Byrne and is a half-sister to the Stakes winning mare, Dawnus, herself the dam of Halling's 2011 Stakes winner, Longhunter. From the great family of Sun Princess and Saddlers' Hall, Viola d'Amour's dam, Dame's Violet also has yearling colt by New Approach.
Teofilo, who will be standing this forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside for a fee of $22,000 inc GST, has started off in tremendous fashion at stud. Not only is he responsible for siring next seasons 1,000 Guineas favourite in Teolane, his other two Maiden winners are also highly-regarded; Mezmaar, rated 89P by Timeform, appears in the five-day entries for the G2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and Parish Hall, who won well on debut at Leopardstown beating two subsequent winners.
An unbeaten, dual G1-winning juvenile, Teofilo covered an extremely impressive line up of mares during his first southern hemisphere season which included G1-winners Tully Thunder and Not Related; the dams of G1 horses Gallant Tess, Black Bean and Regimental Gal; plus siblings and daughters of a further 15 G1 winners; the progeny of those matings are now selling as weanlings throughout Australia and New Zealand.
