Kind Of Blue was an exciting new G1 winner for last year’s Champion first season sire, Blue Point, on Saturday, 19 October, when he showed plenty of determination to make his breakthrough at the top level with a thrilling victory in the British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot.
Trained by James Fanshawe for Wathnan Racing, Kind Of Blue sat handy and was always travelling strongly under James Doyle, he made his challenge with two furlongs to run and soon took up the running. Holding off challenges by Swingalong and Flora Of Bermuda, he kept on gamely to prevail by a head in the six furlong contest.

This progressive colt made a winning debut at Kempton in April, followed by a two and a half-length win on his second start at Doncaster in May. He has since progressed through the ranks and hasn’t been out of the placings in his last three starts in Group company and was just narrowly beaten into second place in the G1 Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock.
Bred by Jan & Peter Hopper & Michelle Morri, Kind Of Blue is out of the unraced mare, Blues Sister, who is a daughter of Persario, she is the dam of The Tin Man and Deacon Blues, who are previous winners of this race.
Blue Point has sired 23 individual Black Type performers so far this year. They are headed by his Classic-winning son, Rosallion, who also went onto G1 Royal Ascot glory, whilst Big Evs dug deep to win the G2 King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Last weekend his juvenile daughter, Sky Majesty, remained unbeaten in three starts when winning the G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte.
