Arkansaw Kid resumed from a spell with an impressive victory in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes over 1,200m at Caulfield on Saturday, 17 August, just 15 minutes after another son of former G1-winning sprinter Harry Angel did the same at Rosehill Gardens.
Well ridden by Luke Currie, Arkansaw Kid came from third at the home turn to overpower Who Dares by three-quarters of a length. Expressiveness was a half-length away in third place.
It was Arkansaw Kid’s third win, with four placings, from 14 starts and $1.12 million in prize money for co-trainers Ben, Will and J.D. Hayes at Flemington.
Placed in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Sandown last year, the Regal Roller was also the four-year-old’s third Stakes victory following successes in the Restricted Listed Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley and the Gothic Stakes at Caulfield.
Arkansaw Kid was offered by Sledmere Stud, Scone at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and sold to Lindsay Park Bloodstock for $190,000.
The galloper, out of Australian mare Florabella, has a three-year-old full-sister (Wollemia Angel), a two-year-old brother and a yearling half-sister filly by Too Darn Hot.
Harry Angel has already sired 144 winners of 283 races, including 13 individual Stakes winners of 19 Stakes races.
Tom Kitten was the young stallion’s first G1 winner in the 2023 Spring Champion Stakes and the giant gelding returned in fine style on Saturday to win the Precise Air Handicap over 1,400m at Rosehill.
Just last month, a daughter of Harry Angel, Fair Angellica won the Listed Prix Amandine over 1,400m at Deauville.
Harry Angel will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside farm in the NSW Hunter Valley this season for a service fee of $38,500 (GST inclusive).
