A 19-week break from racing and a wide run couldn’t stop smart Too Darn Hot filly Arabian Summer from winning the rich Magic Millions National 2YO Classic over 1,050m at Doomben on Saturday, 25 May.
First-up after finishing a strong fifth in the Restricted Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic over 1,200m at the Gold Coast in January, Arabian Summer was trapped four- and five-wide under Harry Coffey but still finished fast to beat King Of Roseau by a neck, with Embassy another two lengths away in third place.
Winner of the Magic Millions 2YO Ballarat Classic over 1,000m on 9 December before winning at the Gold Coast over 1,100m in the lead-up to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Arabian Summer ran a fast 1 minute 1.49 seconds on the Soft 6 surface to take her record to three wins and two placings from six starts for prize money and bonus earnings of $941,100.
Bred by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, the filly was offered by Coolmore Stud at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and bought by McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) for $220,000.
Co-trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy at Ballarat, Arabian Summer is out of the dual city winner Maraam (Street Cry).
Too Darn Hot was the Champion Two-Year-Old colt of Europe in 2018 and a dual Group-1 winner at three.
The young Darley shuttle stallion, a son of the great Dubawi, has already sired 49 winners of 73 races worldwide – including eight Stakes-race winners of 11 Black-Type events.
His two-year-old son Broadsiding (Speedway by Street Cry) is a G1 winner in Australia and just last week Too Darn Hot was crowned Leading First-Season Sire at the The Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association (HTBA) awards at Scone, the same day Hot Darling (Boater) won the Listed Prix des Reves d’Or over 1,000m at Vichy in France.
Progeny of Too Darn Hot have been in high demand at auction in Australia, with a colt of out A Time For Julia fetching $1.9 million at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Too Darn Hot will return to Kelvinside in the NSW Hunter Valley this season, standing for a service fee of $110,000 (GST inclusive).
