Stakes-winning brace for Too Darn Hot

Three-year-olds in Sydney and Melbourne bolster young stallion’s growing stud record.

Broadsiding and Shanwah provided Darley sire sensation Too Darn Hot (GB) with more feature winners when they claimed races at Rosehill Gardens and The Valley on Saturday, 22 March.

Broadsiding boosted his reputation even higher when he scored a thrilling win in the Rosehill Guineas over 2,000m, his fourth victory at G1 level.

Trapped wide early and taken around the field by champion jockey James McDonald, Broadsiding turned for home in third place before surging to the lead and then just holding off the fast-finishing Aeliana. Swiftfalcon was three-quarters of a length away in third place.

A previous winner of the Champagne Stakes 1,600m, J.J. Atkins Stakes 1,600m and Golden Rose 1,500m at the highest level, Broadsiding (out of Speedway) showed his stamina and class under Godolphin head trainer James Cummings.

The colt’s record now reads seven wins and four placings from 14 starts for prize-money earnings of $3,913,975.

Broadsiding clinched the second leg of the Too Darn Hot double following Shanwah’s (Lady Sayyida) victory in the G2 Alister Clark Stakes over 2,040m at The Valley.

The Ciaron Maher-trained three-year-old, confidently ridden by Ethan Brown, beat Imperialist and Statuario by two lengths to claim his fourth win in eight starts and his second at Stakes level, lifting his prize money earnings to $558,975.

The double came just a few weeks after Rivellino (Too Darn Hot) won the G2 Skyline Stakes over 1,200m at Randwick and the sire’s progeny treble a month ago.

Broadsiding won the G2 Hobartville Stakes 1,400m at Rosehill Gardens, with Tropicus (G3 Sedative Stakes, 1,200m) and Shanwah (G2 Autumn Classic, 1,800m) both successful at Caulfield that day.

“He’s the most exciting stallion in the country, there’s no doubt about that,” Godolphin’s racing and breeding manager Jason Walsh said.

“He’s been represented on these big days with dual Stakes winners, including a G1 winner.

“He’s doing it weekend after weekend and it’s a great credit to all the people who have supported him along the journey and I’m sure there’s many more benefits to be reaped on the path ahead.

“There are a lot of horses that we have yet to see, but what we have seen is that he’s high-class stallion who is capable of getting horses who are capable of running big races on big days.

“He’s a hugely exciting prospect for our organisation.”

In just a few seasons, Too Darn Hot has sired 146 winners of 238 races worldwide, including 23 Stakes winners of 39 Black-Type races.

The stallion has 11 colts and seven fillies in the catalogue for the 2025 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale at Warwick Farm in Sydney from 6-7 April.

Too Darn Hot stands at Darley’s Dalham Hall Stud at Newmarket in England for a service fee of 90,000 pounds.
