Improving filly Elphinstone was rewarded for her consistency with a dominant win in the $500,000 VOBIS Platinum Guineas over 1,600m at Caulfield on Saturday, 27 April.
A maiden winner and placed five times in eight previous starts, Elphinstone appreciated a marvellous ride from Luke Currie from sixth spot early before swooping on the leaders at the 200m pole.
The three-year-old, who is co-trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy at Ballarat, scored by a length from Modown with Gifted Gamer another 1.25 lengths away in third place.
Elphinstone had put the writing on the wall with a strong second in the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1,400m) on 13 April at her second start back from a spell.
Out of the Australian mare Inflection, Elphinstine was bred by P. Roach, offered by Sullivan Bloodstock at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and purchased for $200,000.
The chestnut, who has a two-year-old half-sister by Astern, now has prize-money and bonus earnings totalling $619,450.
The sire of former champion Australian galloper Anamoe - who won nine Group 1 races before retiring to stand at stud for Darley, Street Boss also sired Traffic Warden to win the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1,400m) at Flemington and Another Will to win the G3 Doncaster Prelude (1,500m) at Rosehill Gardens last month.
The stallion has the winners of 2716 races worldwide worth more than A$139 million.
Street Boss had six lots sell at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney this month for an average price of $306,666, and to a high of $575,000.
The stallion will again stand at Northwood Park in Victoria next season for a service fee of $66,000, GST inclusive.
