The evolution of an emerging three-year-old star, and that of his sire Epaulette, continued with the victory of Military Zone in Saturday’s G3 Fred Best Classic at Eagle Farm.
Military Zone came from midfield on a day when leaders had dominated to put the result beyond doubt with a sharp turn of foot his rivals were powerless to match.
Under a hold from his rider James McDonald, Military Zone went to the post with something in hand to beat Baccarat Baby and Krone.
The Eagle Farm success followed his G3 Hawkesbury Guineas win of last month and his Listed Gosford Guineas victory in December.
Military Zone is one of Epaulette’s seven Stakes winners and one of five Group winners who are headed by the multiple South African G1 winner Soqrat.
Military Zone is out of the Street Sense mare Loading Zone, a half-sister to six other winners produced by her dam Pause.
Epaulette, the winner of the G1 Golden Rose and the G1 Doomben 10,000, will stand the 2019 breeding season at Kelvinside, NSW, at a fee of A$27,500, including GST.
