The outstanding form displayed by Happy Clapper last spring continued on his return to racing at Randwick on Saturday when the seven-year-old galloper claimed his second G1 prize in the Canterbury Stakes.
In a victory that places him among the best progeny worldwide of his sire Teofilo, Happy Clapper survived some jostling with 300m to run to overpower a good field of younger horses.
At his first start since finishing second in the G1 Emirates Stakes last November, Happy Clapper dashed clear to win by a length-and-a-quarter from another dual G1 winner, Global Glamour.
Happy Clapper is one of Teofilo’s 14 G1 winners worldwide and one of five bred in the southern hemisphere, a group that includes the Darley stallion Kermadec, along with Humidor and Palentino.
As well as his two G1 victories, Happy Clapper has also won a further three Group races and his latest success took his racetrack earnings to almost A$4 million making him Teofilo’s greatest money winner.
Bred by his owner Michael Thomas, Happy Clappper is out of the Encosta De Lago mare Busking, a winning half-sister to the G3 winner Thankgodyou’rehere.
Teofilo stands the southern hemisphere breeding season at Kelvinside, NSW.
