The outstanding runs of Stakes success for the progeny of Teofilo continued with the victory of Chance To Dance in the Listed Haunui Farm Karaka Classic at Pukekohe, New Zealand on 24 September.
The winner of five races in Ireland, including one at Listed level, for his breeder and trainer Jim Bolger, Chance To Dance was having only his second start for trainers Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, and his first in New Zealand. Autridge and Richards took over the gelding’s training after he had spent three seasons in the stable of prolific Australian owner Lloyd Williams for whom he won two races.
Chance To Dance is an eight-year-old by southern hemisphere time, but raced with the enthusiasm of a much younger horse to win by a head from Brilliant Shine.
For Teofilo, the success followed that a week earlier in Australia of Humidor in the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington and of Happy Clapper in the G2 Tramway Stakes at Randwick on 2 September.
Chance To Dance is out of Crystal Ballet, a half-sister to the dam of Rodrigo De Triano whose five G1 wins included the English and Irish Two Thousand Guineas.
He is also among Teofilo’s 70 stakes winners, 13 of them at G1 level.
Teofilo is currently serving his southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside in NSW at a fee of $44,000, including GST.
