There is no doubting the popularity of Teofilo in Australia, but just to make sure, the classy five-year-old Humidor put away the best field to be assembled there this season in the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on September 16.
Humidor is the second consecutive winner by Teofilo in the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes after Palentino won the race in 2016.
In a one-two finish for Darley stallions, Humidor beat Hartnell (Authorized) by three and a quarter lengths, giving him another G1 success to add to the Australian Cup crown he won last Autumn and putting him into the mix for such Spring highlights as the G1 Cox Plate and G1 Caulfield Stakes.
Humidor’s win also continued a brilliant run by the offspring of Teofilo with another son, Happy Clapper having won at G2-level in Sydney this month.
So successful has Teofilo been in Australia that four of his top five worldwide money earners have been produced there. Kermadec, a multiple G1 winner and now a Darley stallion, heads the list which also includes Palentino along with Humidor and Happy Clapper.
Humidor is raced by a syndicate comprising of his breeder, Jomara Bloodstock, and more than 20 other owners. From his six wins and seven placings in 18 starts the horse has earned them some A$1.75 million in prizemoney.
Teofilo is currently standing the southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside Stud in New South Wales for $44,000 Inc GST.
