Multiple winner Whitman adds an impressive Stakes victory to his record
Two-year-old Poet's Voice colt Whitman has been an incredibly consistent performer, winning twice and finishing third twice in four starts and on 31 August, he successfully stepped up to Black type level with a gutsy win in the Listed Ripon Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy.
Soon in front under Andrew Elliot, Mark Johnston’s charge travelled well throughout and despite a sustained challenge from Chiringuita (Hard Spun), battled superbly to the line to win the 1200m contest, which has been won in the past by horses of the calibre of Invincible Spirit, by a head.
Whitman is out of the multiple Group winner and 1,000 Guineas and Fillies’ Mile second Sundrop (Sunday Silence), who has produced four winners to date. She is from the family of Champion and multiple G1 winner Northern Spur.
Poet’s Voice has made a very promising start with his first runners, with 50 per cent of his winners successful in multiple races this year and he is also sire of fellow Black type performer Voice Of Love. His first Australian-bred progeny have just turned two and are with some of the country's leading trainers including John O'Shea, Lee and Anthony Freedman, Peter Snowden and Joe Pride.
Poet's Voice is standing at Kelvinside at a fee of $11,000 inc. GST.
