A Star in the making
Roz, a two-year-old daughter of Teofilo, became the latest Stakes winner for her sire in eye-catching fashion on 26 July when leading from pillar to post to take the Star Stakes over 1400m at Sandown.
The Harry Dunlop-trained filly settled beautifully for jockey Jim Crowley and despite being challenged in the closing stages, kept to her task superbly and won going away by a length and three quarters.
This was her second successive win, having broken her maiden at Kempton earlier this month, winning by three and a half lengths. She is now likely to step up in class again to Group level.
Bred by Darley, Roz is the first foal out of the winning Annaba mare Debonnaire, who is herself out of G2 performer Ultra Finesse – a half-sister to Suave Dancer. Debonnaire has a yearling colt by Authorized and a filly foal by Halling.
Teofilo has sired no fewer than 26 individual winners so far this year, including G2 winner and Irish Derby third Light Heavy, plus consistent German colt Black Arrow who now has two Stakes wins and a pair of Group placings to his name. Teofilo's first southern hemipshere-bred crop of yearlings will turn two on August 1st before hitting the track.
