The step out to a trip that called for stamina made all the difference to Teofilo gelding Weather With You who broke through for his maiden victory in the Listed Geelong Classic on 25 October.
Weather With You had run respectably, but without winning, in his six starts prior to coming to Geelong, but always gave the impression he would be suited as his races became longer.
Over the 2200m of the Classic he was given his chance, seizing control 300m out and holding on resolutely to win by a short neck from Ocean’s Fourteen with Godolphin’s Astoria (Medaglia d’Oro) ran on well to take third place.
Weather With You is the fourth foal and only winner from the Rock Of Gibraltar mare Tarique and became Teofilo’s 72nd Stakes winner.
Bred in Australia by Pocket Lodge, he is trained by the leading New Zealand combination of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman who confirmed G1 Victoria Derby plans following the win.
Teofilo stands at Kelvinside in New South Wales at a fee of A$44,000 including GST.
