The flow of Australasian stakes winners for Teofilo continued when Ataraxia stepped up to Listed company to record a tenacious win in the Dulcify Quality at Randwick on 30 September.
The win was the third at stakes level in the southern hemisphere in as many weeks for Teofilo whose NZ-bred son Humidor won the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on 16 September and an Irish-bred son Chance to Dance scored in Listed company in New Zealand eight days later.
Bred and raced by Godolphin, Ataraxia is out of the Quest For Fame mare Insouciance whose nine foals to race have all won.
The winner of a maiden only two starts earlier, Ataraxia made the most of a perfect ride to score by a neck from Dissolution, the victory opening the door to some intriguing spring stakes possibilities.
Ataraxia was one of the best to begin and took up a position behind the leader where he remained until 300m from the finish when he moved into a challenging position.
In the final surge to the line he resisted all challenges and was holding the runner-up.
Ataraxia is a half-brother to the G1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Complacent (Authorized) who now stands under the Darley banner at Mapperly Stud in New Zealand.
His maternal family also includes the Australian G1 winners Dracula, Festal and Masked Party.
Teofilo stands at Kelvinside, NSW, at a service fee of A$44,000 including GST.
