On a day when Darley’s Australian sires dominated the three Group races on the card at Flemington, the 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking led the way with a storming victory in the G2 Makybe Diva Stakes.
One of eleven Grade or Group One winners for international super sire Street Cry, Shocking demonstrated not only his love of his Melbourne home track – where he is unbeaten in four runs – but also his versatility. He landed Australia’s most famous race over two miles but reverted to half that distance on Saturday, charging down the straight in determined fashion to win his third Group race, named in honour of the three-time Melbourne Cup-winning mare.
Street Cry already has two of his sons standing alongside him at Darley America – Street Sense and Street Boss – and they are to be joined in 2011 by Desert Party, winner of the G2 Sanford Stakes.
