Open Letter makes it eight for New Approach
New Approach, who sired his first G1 winner at the weekend when Dawn Approach stormed to victory in the National Stakes (earning him a higher rating than Camelot was allotted at two in the process), further increased his winners’ tally on 18 September when Open Letter was victorious at Yarmouth.
Never far from the pace, the Mark Johnston-trained filly stayed on gamely in the closing stage to land the 1600m contest by half a length.
Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Open Letter is the second winner from two foals to race out of Deveron (Cozzene), who was herself third in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac. The dam is a full sister to multiple G2 winner Windward Islands and has a yearling filly by Cape Cross and a colt foal by Shamardal.
New Approach, Europe’s leading first-season sire, is also sire of Listed winner and G2 Champagne Stakes third Tha’Ir, and promising filly Rasmeyaa – who finished third in the Listed Flame Of Tara Stakes on her racecourse debut at the weekend.
New Approach stands at Northwood Park at a fee of $33,000 (inc. GST), with his first crop of southern hemisphere-bred runners expected to make their presence felt during the Spring carnival.
