No doubt who’s The Boss Lady

Street Boss mare takes G3 Roma Cup first-up at Ascot and records her second Stakes victory

Talented Perth mare The Boss Lady claimed her second Stakes-race success and her fourth win in succession when she won the G3 Roma Cup at Ascot on Saturday, 12 April.

The daughter of remarkable Darley stallion Street Boss (US) came from second-last at the 800m pole and seventh on the home turn to dead-heat with race favourite Joker’s Grin, with Generosity a length away in third place.

Jockey Brad Parnham immediately fired in a protest alleging interference twice from the 200m mark and stewards took little time upholding his objections.

The Boss Lady had completed a winning hat-trick before spelling, including capturing the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic 1,400m at Ascot in November, and returned in fine style to record her 10th win, with four placings, from just 17 starts.

Out of the Australian mare Top Of The Class, The Boss Lady stopped the clock for 1,100m on 1 minute 3.77 seconds and has now banked prize-money and bonuses of $664,290 under Boyanup trainer Michael Lane.

The now four-year-old chestnut was bred and is part-owned by the Canal Enterprise Syndicate and her best wins may still be ahead.

With classy Godolphin two-year-old Tempted winning the G2 Percy Sykes Stakes 1,200m at Royal Randwick earlier in the day, The Boss Lady lifted their sire Street Boss’s already impressive stud record to 998 winners worldwide of 3009 races, including 81 Black-Type winners of 162 Stakes races.

Street Boss stands at Darley’s Northwood Park property near Seymour in Victoria for a service fee of $66,000, including GST.
