Spartilla gave owner/breeder John Ellis an early Christmas present when recording his first victory at Southwell on 22 December and became the 18th winner for his first-season sire Teofilo.
Out of the Group-winning sprinter Wunders Dream, by Averti, Spartilla has now made four racecourse starts and joins the G1 Dewhurst Stakes winner Parish Hall and G3 Tyros Stakes winner Remember Alexander on Teofilo’s list of successful first-crop runners.
Other winners for the sire include the Listed scorers Black Arrow and Teolane, plus the 105p-rated Mezmaar, who has won twice in three starts.
At the recent European yearling sales, members of his second crop made up to €305,000 (S392,500) and set an average of €86,000 ($110,675) for 55 sold.
