During the second day of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, eight yearlings surpassed the seven-figure mark. However, it was the Too Darn Hot colt that secured the distinction of being the highest-priced yearling of the sale thus far selling for $1.9 million.
Purchasing the colt was Ciaron Maher Bloodstock, Maher expressed his satisfaction with the successful purchase and is very eager to integrate this colt into their stable.
“He’s a great physical, he’s got a really good mind on him, (he’s) really well bred, from a good farm, good breeder.”
Bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds the breeders of Champion Winx, Lot 392: Too Darn Hot x A Time for Julia (colt), the dam A Time For Julia is a multiple G3 winner who ran fourth in the G1 Coolmore Classic.
She has already produced the Stakes winner, As Time Goes By. Notably, this colt is bred on a proven G1-producing cross.
Indicating confidence in Too Darn Hot, Maher points to early Southern Hemisphere success particularly with Arabian Summer being a standout contender in the RL Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO Classic on Saturday, 13 January 2024.
“He’s done really well in Europe and we’ve got a few Too Darn Hot’s in the stable that are starting to hit their straps now.”
Too Darn Hot, a G1 champion with a champion’s pedigree. By a G1 winner out of a G1 winner and has already produced a G1 winner. His success extends across both the northern and southern hemispheres marking an outstanding beginning to his career at stud.
Days one and two at Magic Millions also saw significant achievements from the Darley stallions. Bivouac has sold up to $675,000. The dominance of Exceed And Excel was evident with a colt fetching $500,000, while Blue Point sold up to $400,000.
