Promising filly Azure Angel was a new winner for first season sire Harry Angel when winning over seven furlongs at Newcastle on Friday, 21 October for owner Opulence Thoroughbreds.
Putting to use the experience of her debut run just over five weeks ago the Roger Varian-trained two-year-old jumped well before being settled behind the leader, still travelling strongly she hit the front with just over a furlong and a half to run, she then had to hold off a challenge from Elim but stuck on gamely to win by a head.
Bred by Mrs Tina Cox, Azure Angel is the third foal out of the Zoffany mare, Silken Skies, herself a half-sister to Group-placed Orpen Grey.
Earlier in the week Harry Angel was also the sire of Harry’s Halo who broke his maiden with a win at Pontefract and Proverb who earned his second career win which followed on from his impressive seven-length victory at Hamilton three weeks ago.
