Private salutes in G1 Galaxy

Unbeaten colt by Harry Angel returns with stunning win in feature sprint at Rosehill Gardens

Private Harry confirmed his potential and remained unbeaten in five starts when he beat a quality field on Saturday, 22 March in the G1 Galaxy over 1,100m at Rosehill Gardens.

First-up after stringing together four wins at his first preparation for Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle, Private Harry took the leap to Stakes grade with aplomb and will now be a major player in the G1 T.J. Smith Stakes 1,200m at Royal Randwick next month.

The three-year-old, out of Australian mare Happy Pilgrim, wore down the speedy Front Page to win by three-quarters of a length with Uncommon James a half-neck away in third place.

Ridden by former Welsh jockey Ash Morgan to his first G1 victory, the winner clocked a fast 1 minute 2.67 seconds to be just 0.16 outside Westicaro’s long-standing track record set way back in 2007.

Bred by Rheinwood Pastoral Company, Mittagong and offered at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, the colt was bought by Kurrinda Bloodstock/Doyle Racing for $115,000 and has now earned $1,963,275.

Harry Angel was a champion sprinter in the UK and has now sired 192 winners worldwide of 415 races.

Among his 18 individual Stakes-race winners is dual G1 champ Tom Kitten, Angel Capital and Marshman.

Tom Kitten (Transfers) won the G1 All-Star Mile 1,600m at Flemington on 8 March, four weeks after Angel Capital (Bahamas) claimed the G2 Autumn Stakes over 1,400m at Caulfield and Marshman (White Rosa) took the Listed Kachy Stakes over 1,208m at Lingfield.

Harry Angel easily leads the Australian Third-Season Sires’ table for prize-money won, with more than double the tallies of Justify and The Autumn Sun.

The Darley stallion, who is in seventh place on the overall sires’  list in Australia, had a colt out of Arkiboum sell at the recent Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne for $300,000.

Harry Angel currently stands at Darley’s Dalham Hall Stud at Newmarket in England for a service fee of 10,000 pounds.
